Ephrain is currently a student at the University of New Mexico, Taos, Class of 2007, and will transfer to the main campus as a junior, with plans to return to Taos as a dentist.

June — September
Visit colleges or research them on the internet.
Call four to eight colleges for view books, catalogues, and applications.
Sign up to take ACT test.

November
Choose four to eight colleges you want to apply to.
Note application and scholarship deadlines for each school
Get Letters of Recommendation from two to three teachers
Make copies of these letters for your files
Complete and mail your applications this month. (Application fees may be waived for low income families — Contact Bridges Project or your school counselor to discuss fee waivers.)

December
Complete all college applications and mail with application fees.
Complete scholarship applications for all schools.

January — February
File FAFSA application. (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)
Contact all schools to be sure your application is complete.
Inquire with school guidance counselor concerning local scholarships.

Spring
You will receive an acceptance letter from each college wanting to admit you. After that you will receive a financial aid award letter stating what financial aid you can expect. It is in your interest to show that letter to your school counselor or the Bridges Project for Education counselor before signing. Occasionally the amounts awarded can be negotiated.
